Here Threedy AI has two different approaches: According to Nima, this gives far better results.Īfter a shape has been found, the second problem becomes finding the material of the object. ![]() Threedy AI so has built a database of 10,000 possible shapes and thanks to a patent-pending machine learning technology, every time it is fed a photo, it tries to reconstruct which mixing of the preset simple shapes can give a projection that is compatible with the photos provided. If an AI could understand what parts a single object is built of, then it could reconstruct the whole shape of the object. So they thought that most objects are made of parts, that usually have a simple shape. They so started thinking about an alternate approach, also because we as humans do not reconstruct in our mind the 3D shape of an object from a photo by imagining a shape that can fit a projection. They started with the usual deep learning approach, where basically you try to infer the 3D shape of an object by creating dynamically a shape whose projection becomes similar to the images that you already have, but the results were pretty unsatisfying. “We had no idea on how to solve this problem after we had raised the money” candidly said Nima to me. This conversion has been made with Threedy AI algorithm (Image by Threedy AI) How does it technically work? From the picture of a table (left) to its 3D model, fully navigable (right). He has worked since then to exploit AI and ML to create 3D models automatically from their corresponding 2D photos, an item that online shops already have. He understood that the world would have needed an automated solution to create 3D models in a fast and cheap way, so he dropped out from Apple, and with a team of talented people, he co-founded the startup now known as Threedy AI. But he immediately realized that “3D content problem would have been the issue”: to offer this AR feature, shops and stores would have needed the 3D models of all their objects, something that most of them lack. Nima Sarshar was working at Apple when ARKit was being developed and he immediately understood the possibilities that AR offered, especially for e-commerce, because AR is great to try things at home, and can make the life of customers better. As a consultant, I’ve found myself in this situation many times, and I lost many customers because just to have an AR shop they had to spend 20-50K upfront only for the 3D models and it was a too big expense for them.īut luckily there are some companies that, like the Portuguese investor, had the intuition of trying to create a bridge between the two different worlds, and among them, one of the most interesting ones is Threedy AI. ![]() And if Amazon can (maybe) have a huge AI in-house do that, medium-sized companies don’t have these means, and they should ask a 3D artist do the work for them, with huge upfront costs. All the most important shops, like Amazon, eBay, etc… have plenty of 2D pictures of their items, but very limited access to 3D models of them, and this is a big problem to implement immersive solutions. This transition can be very painful as well: for instance, we all dream of shops becoming fully virtual, of e-commerce websites all implementing AR, but this has a huge bottleneck: the creation of all the 3D models. Now I think that we are in another transitional moment: from a digital world in 2D to another one that is fully spatial, in 3D, thanks to AR and VR. He told me that he became rich by creating analog/digital converters: he noticed that all the world is analog, but in those years, everything was transitioning to digital, so he had the smart idea of creating the products that could be the bridge between these two worlds and he made a very profitable business out of it. Otherwise, keep reading for the usual summary of the key points of the interview □ The transition from 2D to 3DĪt the European Innovation Academy, some years ago, I met with José, a Portuguese investor. Thanks Nima for taking the time to answer my questions! This is a book that teaches readers to pray by example.’ - D. They are theologically fresh and vibrant, yet they are rooted in confessionalism. ![]() ‘The prayers in The Valley of Vision are steeped in Scripture, yet never succumb to mere formula. ![]() Because of that, the book has become a favorite among many Reformed Christians including John Piper, Tim Keller, D.A. Reading and praying The Valley of Vision is the next best thing to like joining a prayer group with spiritual giants of yesteryear. The title of the book comes from a prayer based on the words of Isaiah 22:1, and reads: The compiled prayers are from the works of Thomas Shepherd, Thomas Watson, Richard Baxter, John Bunyan, Isaac Watts, William Williams, Philip Doddridge, William Romaine, David Brainerd, Augustus Toplady, Christmas Evans, William Jay, Henry Law, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, and more. The collection of prayers are organized by ten different categories, some of which are “Father, Son and Holy Spirit”, “Redemption and Reconciliation”, “Penitence and Deprication”, “Approach to God”, and “Gifts of Grace.” The prayers flow from hearts that yearn to please God and weave biblical truths together in beautiful ways to express the wide range of emotions the Christian faces: awe, regret, penitence, thanksgiving, desperation, joy, and more. Out of all the books of prayers out there, the one that stands head and shoulders above the rest is The Valley of Vision: A Collection of Puritan Prayers and Devotionals compiled by Arthur Bennett and published by The Banner of Truth. They serve as a mentor in prayer by giving me a proven model to follow. They cause me to pray for a wide variety of things I wouldn’t typically think to pray about. They keep my prayers from all sounding the same. They give me words when I don’t have words due to tiredness or extreme emotions. They give me a jumpstart in prayer when my heart and words stall.I used to think praying the written prayers of others was cheating-like they were somehow less than true prayers in God’s eyes. ![]() I hope this book helps many Spanish speakers in the US and Latin America draw near to God! Go on your local environment, for example in your VSCode, save and commit all of your work, and push to your remote repository. So, the steps to follow to resolve those conflicts are the following: How to resolve them?Īs you see on the screenshot above (from the previous example), Peter’s work cannot be merged to the base branch because it has conflicts with it. That caused their versions of codes to have conflicts. That means Peter was working on some lines of codes, which Mark worked on as well. ![]() Let’s say the plus feature is ready to get merged to the base branch, so when Mark’s work is merged to the base branch, immediately Peter will see a message on his Pull Request similar to this one on the screenshot Let’s use an example to understand this: While Mark is working on his task of plus functionality, another team member called Peter is working on the validation of plus functionality, in that case, both Mark and Peter will be modifying the same codes, that will cause code conflicts. Git conflicts happen when there is a modification of the same line of codes by two different people, or by one person at different times, and git is asked to merge the version of codes which are holding certain modifications that are already in the other version. When working in a team you will always get to the level of resolving git conflicts if your team uses git. Simple, what is git conflicts? Why do they happen? At first, when I started working with git, I did not care about git conflicts until I started working with my first team. It can help you stay on track of your project through different versioning. Whenever he commits new codes, git will create a new version of the application. So, Mark needs to create a separate branch from the base branch so that he does not mess the whole codebase while working on his new task, after that he will write some codes and commit them. Today Mark has been assigned the task of developing a plus functionality. ![]() Let’s assume Mark is a team member of seven developers who are working on a calculator app. Concretely, git helps you to manage your codes, saves your codes in different versions. Gitįrom its official website git is defined as “a free and open-source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency”. What is git and what are git conflicts? i. I will use GitHub as an external git client, and much terminal commands. I will assume that you are already familiar with some git commands and operations. I will walk you through all you need to do, to resolve git conflicts easily. This is always difficult for someone new to Git. ![]() In this post, I will talk about resolving git conflict after git rebase operation. In the first weeks, we were struggling with git often, and mostly resolving git conflict was as nightmares to us. I remember when my colleagues and I started working on the same project, we had to work on one central git repository. It is sometimes difficult to adapt to most of them because most of the time you will be able to write some codes which solve a specific problem, but no experience with professional tools. When you start working in a team as a software developer, you will be using some professional tools such as Git for version control. Embracing the Amavi mentality for the rest of my stay in Italy means that I checked off one of the greatest bucket list item there is: to fall in love with a place that speaks to the heart and soul and loves me back unconditionally. As the next half of my semester awaits I now look forward to the trips, the lessons, and the people as a gift rather than simply something I can brag about or take endless pictures of for some Facebook album back home. Amavi means “I loved.” Rather than seeing every opportunity as a qualification for a checkmark on the bucket list or some preconceived idea of what a successful European semester would be, this program helped me see through the eyes of someone who simply fell in love with her surroundings and embraced her experiences on a much more personal level. ![]() ![]() As my time in Italy carried on, the things I was seeing and the things I was doing became important for an entirely new reason that excluded a how-much-can-I-do-in-three-months-to-make-it-worth-it mentality. In reality, my experiences taught me that “conquering” is not important at all. I would do amazing things, see wondrous places, and feel like I had actually “done something” worthwhile because I was having a European adventure. When I first came to Italy it made sense that in the end I would “conquer” or “Vici” my experiences. People like the “Mustache Man,” my favorite cappuccino barista, the students at the James Joyce High School I visited, my “Italian family,” and all of the lecturers and members of the Interlinea program, who took time out of their lives to show me an Italy I never could have imagined. Seeing became experiencing Italy through the eyes of someone who actually lives there and has a completely different view than those of a traveler. For me, the “Vidi” could only be accomplished when the program encouraged me to delve deeper and fully immerse myself through personal relationships with the Italians around me. However seeing Italy with one’s eyes is not nearly enough in order to understand it when I simply “came” to the country. Bruno program worked diligently to give me the tools I needed to survive.įrom the moment I stepped off the plane and was swept away on the whirlwind of fieldtrips, cultural excursions, and sitting through amazing lectures from Italy’s brilliant scholars, I was already accomplishing the “Veni” of my Italian experience. At first glance I thought this was an appropriate play on words for the experience I was going to have in Italy when I first arrived, but after seven weeks in Italy, I realize that I will never want to “conquer.” Seven weeks into this amazing European experience I realize that I came, I saw, and I loved everything around me.īeing a foreigner is undoubtedly difficult because I did not speak the language, I did not understand the culture, I continuously fumbled trying to adapt to a place that owed me nothing. ![]() An example of this is how in the program, our assignments fall under the “Veni, Vidi, Vici” or in English, “I came, I saw, I conquered” class titles. ![]() These gifts helped me to reexamine the experience I thought I was going to have in Italy and compare it to the one I was actually blessed with. “Rules for Happiness: something to do, someone to love, something to hope for.”Īs the halfway mark of my study abroad program comes to an end and I return to Ariccia – joyful to see my Italian home again – I realize that this trip in Europe brought so many more gifts than I could ever have imagined possible. ![]() Delivered by Young in a cool “i-won’t-break-a-sweat” baritone, they elevate the song out of monotonous rap hell and into pop-rap heaven. But the track’s not-so-secret weapon? The hilarious and quotable lyrics, among the wittiest and silliest in rap music history. The beats of the song – including samples from Scorpio by Dennis Coffey and Daytime Hustler by Bette Midler (!!!) – render it immediately dance-floor ready. First, the song’s musical track – based mainly on a sample of the song Found a Child by the group Ballin’ Jack – is accessible and irresistible. Ostensibly an ode to rejecting shyness and making one’s move with the lady of one’s choice, the song is a fantastic primer for everything that is wonderful about the pop-rap hits of this era. The first single from Stone Cold Rhymin’ was the great Bust a Move. ![]() This partnership set the stage for Young’s first album, Stone Cold Rhymin’, which was released in late 1989 and made the US Top 10. There, he met the rapper Tone Loc, and collaborated with him on the songs Wild Thing and Funky Cold Medina, which became top 5 pop chart hits and million sellers in the US. While a student at USC, Young was offered a record contract from the rap label Delicious Vinyl after rapping over the phone to label executives. Born in London and raised in Queens, New York, Young moved to LA in the late 80s to attend the University of Southern California where he earned a degree in economics. On the pop singles charts, rap as a genre didn’t really begin its big breakthrough until 19, when a diverse platform of both good and bad rap artists – Tone Loc, Monie Love, Vanilla Ice, Salt-n-Pepa, and MC Hammer among many others – stormed radio and the pop sales charts on both sides of the Atlantic and began to establish rap as the consistent chart hit generator that it remains to this day.Ĭaught up in this sweeping ’89-90 wave of pop-rap was one Marvin Young, otherwise known as Young MC. Sure, there were some rap songs that were big chart hits prior to that year – Rapper’s Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang, Walk this Way by Run DMC, The Message and White Lines by Grandmaster Flash, (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (to Party) by the Beastie Boys and, erm, Holiday Rap by MC Miker G and DJ Sven, but these were mainly outliers. But truth be told, when the Straight Outta Compton album was released in 1988, rap music of any kind was only just beginning to make a dent on the upper reaches of the pop singles charts. The surprise international box office success of the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton has generated renewed interest in the early years of rap music, and in particular the rise of West Coast and gangsta rap. |
